wood floor refinishing

EverWood Flooring proudly uses Bona refinishing equipment, the industry's most highly regarded manufacturer.

 THE DUSTLESS REFINISHING PROCESS

Thinking about hardwood floor refinishing can be overwhelming, but our process can be explained clearly in three simple steps:

 1. Sand your existing wood floors using our state-of-the-art, GreenGuard-certified, dustless system.

We use a Bona® dust containment system that has been certified for Indoor Air Quality by the GreenGuard Environmental Institute. This means that our equipment assists in, according to www.greenguard.org,
“…enhancing indoor air quality and reducing people’s exposure to chemicals and other pollutants.”

Our dustless sanding method requires less cleanup, creates fewer pollutants in the air, and does not negatively impact the quality of the air that your family, friends, and pets breathe.

2.

Apply sealer or stain of your choice.

Sealer helps to prevent the top-coat finish from penetrating the wood when it is applied. Sealer also creates an ideal surface where finish can be applied smoothly.
Our sealers are GreenGuard-certified for indoor air quality.

Stain allows you to create a custom look for your floors, or even replicate an existing wood color in your home. Our stains are low-VOC, high-quality products.

3.

 Apply polyurethane finish.

As the final application in the refinishing process, polyurethane protects your floors and creates an ideal finished surface. Polyurethane is waterproof and non-porous, thus not allowing bacteria or mold to survive in cracks. Also, polyurethane is easy to maintain and clean.

We use VOC-compliant, high-quality finishes, all of which are GreenGuard-certified. From www.greenguard.org:
The GreenGuard Environmental Institute certifies products that meet stringent chemical emissions standards based on established criteria from key public health agencies. GREENGUARD Certification is broadly recognized and accepted by sustainable building programs and building codes worldwide.

 WATER-BASED & OIL-BASED FINISHES

Below is a comparison of based-water and oil-based polyurethane finishes. There are a lot of facets to each finish, and plenty of opinions to go with them!

 Water-based Oil-based
  • Durable surface
  • Quicker dry time
  • Dries clear, emphasizing the original grain and tone of the underlying wood
  • Available in satin, semi-gloss, and gloss
  • Durable surface
  • Longer dry time
  • Dries with an amber tint, encouraging
the appearance of color and depth from within the underlying wood
  • Available in satin, semi-gloss, and gloss

The National Wood Flooring Association offers a great side-by-side look at a variety of wood species with both water-based and oil-based finishes. You can see some examples here: NWFA's Species Gallery.
